DAVAO CITY – The director of the Department of Social Welfare and Development said the region will be augmenting the East Quadrant of Metro Manila which covers the areas of Marikina and Pasig, should the powerful earthquake along the Marikina fault happen.
Director Priscilla Razon, who is also the vice chair for disaster response of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council 11 said Davao Region will be assisting the area together with Region 2.
She said other regions were already given their assignments where to respond should the Marikina fault line moves.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) had earlier warned of a 7.2 magnitude quake following movement from the Marikina fault line or the West Valley Fault.
Razon also said Davao region has enough contingency fund for any calamity. She said that an amount of P1.4 billion is on standby to be used once a calamity struck Davao region.
She said they are training 628 implementors all over Davao Region for disaster response.
“We have right now another one week training at (Eden Nature Park in Toril),” Razon said adding that they allot one week of training per province. She said the trainings started two weeks ago. (davaotoday.com)
