DAVAO CITY – The New People’s Army released on the eve of New Year its captured soldier in Agusan del Norte to Davao City Mayor and presidential aspirant Rodrigo Duterte.
Corporal Adriano Dela Peña Bingil was captured by the NPAs under the Western Agusan Norte-Agusan Sur Subregional Command around 10:45 am on September 19, this year.
In a statement, Allan Juanito, spokesperson of NPA in North Central Mindanao said Bingil was arrested in an NPA checkpoint in Km. 16, Barangay Policarpio, San Luis, Agusan del Sur onboard his motorcycle.
Bingil was serving as the team leader of the Peace and Development Team under the 26th Infantry Battalion who were conducting their activity for Community Organizing for Peace and Development in Mahagsay, Agusan del Sur.
During his arrest, an amount of P10,150 was also found in his possession. Bingil was supposedly about to send the said amount to his family at the time of his capture.
Juanito said they were able to turn over the money to Bingil’s family through a local radio station.
Earlier this month, the National Democratic Front of the Philippines postponed “indefinitely” the scheduled release of Bingil on December 7 as the Army’s declared three-day “stand down order” on December 4-6 ended before the scheduled date of release of the prisoner.
The NDF said they continue to follow the protocols of war. It said it has released an estimate of 30 prisoners of war this year. (davaotoday.com)
