DAVAO CITY – An owner of a recruitment agency is challenging presidential son and Davao City first district Congressman Paolo Duterte in his re-election bid.
Jamal R. Kanan, who claims in his LinkedIn profile as Chief Executive Officer of Davao land-based recruitment company A. Kanan Manpower Corporation, filed his candidacy on Monday morning October 4.
Paolo Duterte filed his certificate of candidacy on Sunday through his brother and incumbent Vice Mayor Sebastian “Baste” as he is in isolation after contracting COVID-19.
There is no public information available on the internet on Kanan except from his Facebook account and LinkedIn profile. Neither has he released any information on his campaign.
His company, Kanan Manpower, focuses on career placement of Filipino professionals and skilled workers for overseas employment with branches in Metro Manila, General Santos City, and Cagayan de Oro City.
Its Davao City office is listed as located at the sixth floor of Metro Lifestyle Complex, corners F. Torres Street and Jacinto Extension.
Paolo Duterte was elected first district representative in 2019 unopposed, and was appointed as deputy speaker of the House of Representatives. Among his legislations include House Bill 07031, an Act Renaming the Ninoy Aquino International airport as the Paliparang Pandaigdig ng Pilipinas which is still pending in the House’s Committee on Transportation since 2019.
Prior to being congressman, Duterte was elected vice mayor in 2016, but resigned in 2017 following controversy over allegations of his involvement in shipment of illegal drugs.
