DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Thousands flocked to the oath taking ceremony of the regional political party Hugpong Ng Pagbabago (HNP) at the SMX Convention here on Friday.
HNP Chairperson and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said in her speech that she was overwhelmed since they only invited around 3,300 participants.
A total of 6,270 individuals took oath, composed of barangay officials from 182 barangays here, HNP members, and other invited guests. Of this number, 629 were walk-ins who attended without invitation.
“The number of attendees doubled because the people voluntarily said they want to support the agenda of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration,” Duterte-Carpio said.
President Rodrigo Duterte also commended his daughter for the growing number of members under the regional party.
“I appreciate what Inday is doing,” he said during his speech as the keynote speaker.
The HNP party was launched on February 23 this year.
On July 23, the HNP was granted accreditation by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) as a regional party after complying with all the legal requirements and other relevant documents as provided by the law.
Its officers include: Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio as Chairperson, Davao Occidental Gov. Claude Bautista as President, Davao Oriental Gov. Nelson Dayanghirang as Vice President, Davao del Norte Gov. Anthony del Rosario as Secretary General, Compostela Valley Gov. Tyron Uy as Treasurer.
