Jeepney operators and drivers in Davao City launched a transport strike on Thursday to protest the government’s Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) modernization program.

The city government deployed at least 20 buses and trucks to accommodate stranded passengers. The Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office said as of 7am Thursday, 70 percent of the total number of public utility jeepneys and 80 percent of taxis were still on the road. (davaotoday.com)
