DAVAO CITY – Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis. N. Tolentino has sought the support of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for his senatorial bid. Tolentino confirmed his senatorial bid on March in his speech in vote-rich town Cavite. Previous reports said Tolentino is being considered as one of the candidates of the Liberal Party.
Duterte on Sunday said he introduced Tolentino, who is “one good friend” of him, to Pastor Apollo Quiboloy. Quiboloy heads the Philippine-based church Kingdom of Jesus Christ, The Name Above Every Name. In news reports, Quiboloy claimed he has 6 million followers in 2010, making him one of the most sought after endorser.
“Many many years ago kasama ko yan sa ikot-ikot ng motor sa Luzon (I was with him during our motor trips to Luzon). He is one good friend,” Duterte described Tolentino.
Duterte said he assured Tolentino to have “at least a certain number of votes guaranteed” with Quiboloy’s help.
“Nakiusap rin ako kay Pastor na ‘suportahan natin siya Pastor’ (I also asked Pastor to support Tolentino,” Duterte said.
Duterte said Quiboloy “was very accomodating”.
“Kapag mahusay ka na tao, wala ka namang record na masama, hindi ka naman killer, wala ka namang kaso sa human rights commission, ok lang kay pastor (If you are a good man, you don’t have bad records, you are not a killer, you don’t have a case in human rights commission, Pastor is okay with you),” Duterte said adding that he is not a violator of human rights because Pastor Quiboloy supports him.
