Parking fees to be imposed in major city streets next year

Oct. 14, 2019

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Parking fees will be imposed in some of the major streets in the city starting next year, the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) announced.

“Effective January 1, 2020, the City Government of Davao, through the City Transport and Traffic Management Office and all its enforcement arms, will be implementing the City Ordinance No. 052-13, Series of 2013,” reads the CTTMO Facebook post on October 12.

The said ordinance is an amendment to the Ordinance No. 153-A, Series of 1990, or “An Ordinance imposing Parking Fees on all vehicle owners/drivers for using certain streets in Davao City as Parking Spaces and for other purposes” as well as the Comprehensive Transport and Traffic Code of Davao City (C.O. No. 0334-12, Series of 2012).

CTTMO said that it is authorized and directed “to establish, mark and designate portions of a thoroughfare as on-street public pay parking zones.”

The initial phase of the public pay parking zone will be implemented in the streets of San Pedro, Ilustre, Pelayo, Iñigo, Villa Abrille, Monteverde, and Duterte.

Pay parking will be enforced from Monday to Saturday, from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Parking rate for buses will be Php100 for the first two hours, and P20 for every succeeding hour.

For light vehicles, there will be a Php 20 fee for the first two hours, and Php 10 for every succeeding hour.

For motorcycle, Php5 for the first two hours will be collected, and Php 1 for every succeeding hour.

Bicycles will be charged Php 2 for the first two hours and Php 1 for every succeeding hour.

Motorcycle owner, Sheena Casimiro, said she is in favor of paying fees as long as she can park her vehicle properly.

She said that there are limited parking spaces in the downtown area. “It’s okay as long as my motorcycle is safe,” she added.

The parking ordinance was enacted by the LGU in 2013. (davaotoday.com)
