Resolution for the Japan flooding incident, released

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Councilor Al Ryan S. Alejandre passed a Resolution expressing sympathy, condolences and moral support to the people of Japan on account of the July 8, 2018 heavy rainfall, flooding and landslides that occurred in their country.

It stated that Japan experienced what was called the heaviest rainfall seen in their country for decades, which caused flooding and landslides. Such rainfall caused destruction to large parts of Japan.

Places were hit particularly in Hiroshima, and other parts of the south-west, such as in Okayama, Hyogo, Kyoto, Gifu, Shiga, Kochi, Ehime, Yamaguchi, Fukuoka and Saga.

Due to such calamity, thousands of homes and properties were damaged and around two million Japanese fled to evacuation centers.

It was reported that the death toll rose to around 122, while dozens are still missing. As such, around 73,000 personnel have been mobilized for search and rescue efforts.

It was known that Davao City and Japan have a long-shared history of friendship, partnership and cooperation, with Mintal, Davao City becoming known as “Little Tokyo”.

The Japanese government, business associations and their people have aided Davao City be it in tourism arrivals, business partnerships and during calamities when the city needed help.

With this unfortunate calamity, the people of Davao City also commiserates with the people of Japan and sympathizes with the families of those who died. The people of Davao City are praying and hoping for a fast recovery of the families as well as the redevelopment of the affected areas.

In the letter sent by Davao City Inday Sara Duterte to H.E Koji Haneda, the ambassador of Japan in the Philippines, she expressed her deepest sympathy to the people of Japan for the recent flooding and landslides which had a drastic impact to the western part of the state.

She said Filipinos especially the people in Davao City are one with Japan in praying and hoping that the people affected by the flooding may stand tall and quickly recover from any form of loss. (davaotoday.com)
