DAVAO CITY – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources 11 and the Philippine Information Agency organized a group of citizen-journalists to monitor violations on environmental laws and report activities significant to environment protection and preservation.
The group tagged as Volunteer Officers for Information and Communication on Environment (Voice) were formed after the two-day learning event on “Cellular Phone Videography and Photography” sponsored by DENR 11 conducted through the Program Monitoring and Coordination Center (PMCC NTFD).
In a PIA dispatch, program’s regional coordinator, Atty Joan Sonza-Alug said that the conduct of the event was in support of the Bantay Lasang (Forest Watch) project of DENR 11.
DENR 11 re-launched this year the Bantay Lasang Project “to further intensify the forest protection efforts in the Davao Region”.
The project covers the 8,100-hectare Mt. Diwalwal declared through Presidential Proclamation No. 297 as mineral reservation area.
The initial members of the Voice include the information officers of local government units in Compostela Valley province and representatives from member agencies of PMCC.(davaotoday.com)
