DAVAO CITY – Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares today expressed his gratitude to the groups and individuals urging him to run for senator in the coming elections.
“I thank the groups that encourage me to run in the Senate and I am glad that I am acceptable to diverse groups with diverse political persuasions,” said Colmenares.
Colmenares however said he does not have resources to fund his senatorial bid.
“I am now seriously considering the challenge but a senatorial run requires a lot of resources and we do not have that,” he said adding that they have learned it during former Bayan Muna Rep. Teodoro Casiño’s senatorial campaign.
Casiño lost during the 2013 senatorial elections.
Colmenares, however, said many believe that he can make a difference “because of (his) track record in advocating against corruption, pork barrel, high prices of electricity and other pro-people issues.”
“Unlike the other candidates, I have actually pre-empted the electricity rate hike thru the Supreme Court (SC) temporary restraining order (TRO), and actually battled against the pork barrel system,” he said.(davaotoday.com)
