DAVAO CITY, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte sent out a message for the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, urging the public not to be tempted by the material world.
“These two events remind us that, even though all things come to pass, our deeds will outlast our mortal lives,” he said Monday.
“No amount of success, power, or position can ever compensate for the greed and corruption of human character,” Duterte said.
He called on the public to “accumulate riches” for the coming generation and not for personal gain.
Duterte also called on government workers to be “true servant-leaders”.
“I hope that we cherish with fondness, love, and gratitude the spiritual inheritance left by our ancestors and loved ones on their special day,” he said.
Tight security measures are already in place for Duterte’s expected to visit the tomb of his parents at the Wireless Catholic Cemetery here Tuesday, Nov. 2.
