Jan. 21, 2015

A farmer’s group from Mabini, Compostela Valley is protesting the entry of an Australian Mining Company in the province.

Members of Hugpong sa mga Mag-uuma sa Mabini (United Farmers of Mabini) or Humabin condemned the Australian mining company, One Asia Resources which is allegedly funding “Php 57 million for the combat and intelligence operations” of the 71st Infantry Battalion to hasten the mining exploration.

The farmers will hold their protest Thursday to also coincide with the 28th year commemoration of the Mendiola Massacre, an event where 13 protesting farmers were killed as government forces opened fire against thousands of rallyists in Mendiola street, Manila on January 23, 1987.
