DAVAO CITY – Various groups of teachers and parents are set to ask the Supreme Court on Friday to suspend the implementation of Kindergarten-12 program.
Among the petitioners are Dr.David San Juan of Suspend K to 12 alliance, National Artist Bienvenido Lumbera, partlylist representatives under the Makabayan bloc, and Benjamin Valbuena of the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (Act).
The group said they will also troop to the Department of Education’s K to 12 Summit at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) before proceeding to the Supreme Court.
Valbuena said since the program’s implementation in 2012 teachers have witnessed “how K to 12 worsen the burdens of our education system in the country particularly on the unavailability of textbooks and modules for the students, insufficient numbers of classrooms and other facilities and on the huge shortage of teachers.”
Valbuena said teachers do not have complete reference materials in teaching until now.
“Because of President Benigno Aquino and Secretary Armin Luistro’s desire to see the program going, they forcibly implemented the program even if its basic needs are [not met],” he said.
