DAVAO CITY – The Davao del Norte State College will establish an extension campus in Talaingod, Davao del Norte next year.

In a Philippine Information Agency dispatch, DNSC Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Marilou Junsay said that the state college will open an extension campus with first batch to start on June 2016 “as per discussion with the municipality of Talaingod and Governor Rodolfo del Rosario”.

Junsay said they have already conducted visitation and study in the municipality, which includes the identification of the location of the campus.

She said they are still finalizing the location of the campus and is currently in the process of creating a campus development plan.

Junsay said the campus will offer Bachelor of Science in Community Development.

“We anticipate that the said course will address the needs of the community, which will eventually address other areas of concerns that will be part of the curriculum,” she said.

Junsay said 50 residents have already expressed their interest to enroll in the said course.

“But we expect that it will expand to 100; and they will be divided into two classes,” said Junsay.

She said that package of scholarship and student assistance program will be offered to the enrollees.

Junsay also said that based on the requirement of the Commission on Higher Education, there will be full time teachers, but the school is planning to invite practitioners.

She also emphasized that the course will not follow the usual or regular curriculum. “We can start from formal (education) then combine it with field exposures or visits to different places then link application, so there would be laboratory,” she said. (davaotoday.com)
