DAVAO CITY – The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration warns migrant workers of a scam which asks them to pay a certain amount in exchange of an availment of loan from the OWWA.
Administrator Rebecca J. Calzado, in a statement, said the Philippine Overseas Office (Polo) in Hong Kong and Macau reported that OFWs are inquiring them about the purported OWWA loans that require an applicant to deposit an amount in order to release a loan.In Hong Kong, the OFWs were asked to deposit HKD 1,000.
OWWA also said that a Facebook account named OWWA loan which uses the agency logo is a bogus account.
OWWA said the public should only transact with OWWA offices to avoid being victimized by scams. (davaotoday.com)
