DAVAO CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry gave a coco coir processing facility to a copra-producing cooperative in the Island Garden City of Samal last Friday.
In a Philippine Information Agency dispatch, San Remigio Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Multi-purpose Cooperative (SARBEMCO) has availed of “60 electric-run twining machine, 32 bicycle-type twining machine, four geonet weaving machine, decortating machine with 23-horsepower engine and coir-fiber extraction machinery,” all worth P855,000.
SARBEMCO Chairman Fedrico Tautuan said since they started copra production in 1996, “they dreamt of utilizing their waste, especially the coconut husks into income generating source.”
During the turn-over and launching of the facilities, Tautuan and DTI Davao del Norte Provincial Director Romeo Castañaga inked a memorandum of agreement and usufruct agreement for the utilization of the shared services facility. (davaotoday.com)
