DAVAO CITY – The Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (Kadamay), a militant urban group, prodded Presidential candidate Senator Grace Poe to avoid the path pursued by President Benigno Aquino III, to win the Filipinos’ votes on May elections.
This came after a string of controversies hounded Poe, and with the recent allegation that she is secretly supported by President Aquino and who she will take as her adviser on corruption.
Kadamay National Chairperson Gloria Arellano said that “under the Aquino governance, problems continued that have added burden to ordinary Filipinos and favored big businesses and foreign interests.”
“The Daang Matuwid has been riddled with controversy and has massively changed the social and political landscape for the worse,” she said.
The Public Private Partnership (PPP) and Conditional Cash Transfers (CCT) are some of the Aquino projects that Arellano said have worsen Filipinos’ economic situation because of its higher prices for utilities and services.
But Poe believed that PPP and CCT genuinely helped in the development and growth of the nation and the Filipinos.
Arellano said that although Pres. Aquino graduated in Bachelor of Arts major in Economics from Ateneo de Manila University, “him being Poe’s adviser on corruption may not protect the public funds, but instead plunder it.”
It is the Aquino administration that introduced Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP), a reform that aimed to boost economic growth and support programs and projects using savings and unprogrammed funds.
“(Pres.) Aquino himself is accountable for the graft and corruption committed using the pork barrel and DAP,” Arellano said.
Senator Poe is under the Partido Galing at Puso, which literally means wisdom and empathy, the umbrella coalition party supporting her and her vice-presidentiable, Senator Francis Escudero.
Arellano said that if Poe wanted to serve the Filipinos with a heart, “as what her party claims, she should avoid Aquino as the Filipinos deserve justice from his regime.”(davaotoday.com)
