Teachers’ solon asks DOLE to account ‘unexplained’ budget proposal

Sep. 04, 2015

DAVAO CITY – The Alliance of Concerned Teachers’ representative asks the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to account its ‘unexplained’ P832.2 million in its 2016 budget proposal.

During the House budget hearing on Thursday, ACT Teachers’ Rep. Antonio Tinio said that DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz needs to account for an P832.295 million discrepancy in her department’s budget proposal.

“This is highly improbable, considering that MIMAROPA is one of the smallest, least populated regions in the country. Yet DOLE is asking for a budget that’s nearly double that of the National Capital Region,” he said
During the said hearing, Secretary Baldoz was not able to explain the discrepancy and asked the Committee on Appropriations for more time to submit an answer.

Tinio said that if DOLE “cannot explain, then their budget proposal has been padded significantly and obviously (must not) be approved.”

“DOLE needs to explain this significant discrepancy as soon as possible, preferably before the budget reaches the plenary,” said Tinio. (davaotoday.com)
