The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said the reconstruction of Governor Generoso Bridge 1 in Bankerohan is “within the timetable.”
Ciriaco Construction has completed clearing the road right-of-way and completed the protection works of pier five and six of Generoso Bridge.
DPWH XI Director Jerome dela Rosa said their department is closely coordinating with the Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC), the Davao City Water District (DCWD) and other power lines of private entities so that they do not inadvertently affect the city services structures.
In answer to a query of the Philippine Information Agency, Director dela Rosa explained that the discussion on the design of the bridge was put to rest after President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo herself decided that a concrete bridge be constructed instead of a steel bridge.
The President’s decision was based on the recommendations of city officials who decided that a concrete bridge would be more suitable for the city of Davao.
“Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. has ordered us to be more consistent in providing support to the President’s 10-point agenda particularly the modernization program of the administration,” dela Rosa said. “This includes the full implementation of the government’s poverty alleviation program, improvement of farm-to-market roads, modernization of agriculture, job generation, and others.”
Aside from the ongoing bridge construction, DPWH is also building more farm-to-market roads to connect more barangays to the city and other projects for road widening, road resurfacing, protection works, construction of canal lining, and installation of reinforced concrete pile culverts. These infrastructure facilities hope to serve farmers in the rural areas and depressed barangays. Among those completed projects on farm-to-market roads are those funded under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP).
The President is committed to implement development projects urgently needed to improve the lives of the Filipino people. She has ordered the DPWH to continue building more bridges and infrastructure facilities to benefit every Filipino family. (PIA)
