The contractor of the ongoing construction on the Gov Generoso or Bankerohan Bridge assures that their work will be finished before the opening of classes this year.
Ciriaco Corporation announced that, good weather permitting, the construction of the bridge will be completed on or before the first week of June and will be passable before the opening of classes on the second week.
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional director Jerome dela Rosa
reported that the DPWH central office has been calling him up and he has told high ranking officials in Manila that the bridge will be inaugurated by the second week of June
Dela Rosa said the construction was meant to be done as quickly as possible to address traffic congestion. He reported that as of May 7 this year, the bridge was already at 87.76 percent completed, with a positive slippage of 51.56 percent.
The contract between the government and the Ciriaco Corporation signed on January 14 this year set the completion of the bridge 210 calendar days after it started, or by August 14 this year.
Aside from finishing work ahead of time, the price of Gov. Generoso bridge also went down from 216.7 million to 206.64 million pesos. The excess of 10 million pesos will be set aside for other expenses that will be incurred by DPWH on bridge repairs in the future.
Constructed 58 years ago, the Gov. Generoso Bridge at Bankerohan replaced the wooden bridge that was destroyed by the Japanese Army during World War II. The bridge was rendered impassable in April last year when one of its posts broke down, weakening the structure. (PIA)
