MANILA — Press Secretary Cerge Remonde cautioned applicants to only apply with recruiters licensed by the Philippine Overseas Employers Administration (POEA) with 200,000 jobs opened for Filipino skilled workers in the Middle East,.
Remonde said: “Whether you like it or not, marami pa rin tayong mga kababayan na mga halang ang mga kaluluwa, mga walang makataong damdamin na nag-e-exploit sa ating mga kababayan. Itong mga illegal recruiters na ito ang talagang dapat nating habulin at bitayin kung mahuhuli natin.”
He said President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo during her trip to Dubai received assurances from top employers in the Middle East about job openings for 2009 broken down as: 107,525 jobs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ; 39,128 jobs in the UAE; 39,169 jobs in Kuwait ; 21,570 jobs in Libya and Algeria ; 11,356 jobs in Oman and 3,446 jobs in Bahrain.
Middle East employers told the President they prefer Filipinos for the construction, hotel and restaurant and IT industries, he added.
The Press Secretary said that President Macapagal-Arroyo has ordered Labor and Employment secretary Marianito Roque to find out about the condition of 50 laid off Filipino workers who have reportedly been scrounging garbage cans for food. The President ordered Roque to look for them and find out how government can help. (PIA)
