DAVAOCITY — Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan, upon orders from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, immediately went to Davao City to personally look into the Generoso bridge 1 in Bankerohan that has collapsed when one of its pier gave way last April 12, this year causing heavy traffic in the City.
Upon inspection, together with USEC Rafael Yabut; DPWH XI Director Dimas Soguilon; ARD for operations Rey Tamayo; ARD Hadji Pundidato Mitmug; and other district engineers in Davao region, Secretary Bonoan thoroughly discussed and evaluated necessary modern methods and scheme for its total rehabilitation.
In an interview with Davao mediamen, Secretary Bonoan said we will go for modern method of construction and adopt specific scheme that will be more expeditious in its implementation with the highest quality standards designed to safeguard the motorists and the public in general.
There is no reason why we cant build a stronger bridge with the support of your Mayor (referring to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte) and Majority Leader Congressman Prospero Nograles who have been calling President Arroyo for its immediate enforcement.
Ang pangyayaring ito ay hindi naman natin kagustuhan, and I hope the people of Davao will bear with us for the inconveniences, he said adding that I can assure the Dabawenyos that the department will exert all the best efforts that we can get to immediately expedite its total reconstruction as ordered by the President, he said.

The Generoso Bridge 1 in Bankerohan needs an allocation of more or less P200-million or more.
While the designs and specifications have been put in place, its immediate reconstruction is on top of the priority lists of the department.
Apart of the Bankerohan bridge, Secretary Bonoan and his entourage also inspected the Butuan Philippine national highway down to Davao City; the Tagum bridge construction; the Samal bridge linking Davao City; and other major projects in Davao region.
