Davao City Urged to Update Investment Data

Apr. 17, 2007

DAVAO CITY — Andre Fournier, trustee of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and prime mover of the ICT (Information and Communications Technology) sector in the City has urged concerned sectors to update the Citys investment data as to facilitate the queries of potential Information Technology (IT) investors who are eyeing Davao City.

Fournier said there are many investors particularly BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) locators like call centers who are looking at the citys potentials, yet they have difficulty in answering the queries of these investors.

There was a businessman who was planning to put up a call center here in Davao City, in our tour he saw the former Banco Davao building near Bankerohan and said it was very suitable location for a call center. The problem is we do not know whom we would contact to inquire about the structure, particularly the bank who presently owns that building. Fournier recounted.

He said that many investors particularly call centers want ready structures like buildings, and Davao City lacks the space for these potential call center locators.

Fournier said that the Damosa IT Park still has to put up the buildings as the standing building in the IT park already houses the Link2Support call centers. He said that call center locators like to have their centers here because of the quality of agents coming from the City.
He urged building owners in the city to let the DCCI know of available space and their rental rates which they could relay to these potential locators. He also said that an update on economic data particularly on the cost of living and rental rates is also imperative as he said they are still relying on 2004 data.

He said the data updates is a shared responsibility and not just of the Davao City Investments Promotions Center (DCIPC) under Bobby Teo or the Deaprtment of Trade and Industry (DTI). It is a matter of working together on coming with a single script. Fournier said. (PIAXI/RG Alama)
