Group champions in Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan 2019 receive P1 million each

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Showcasing the culture and tradition of the various tribes of Davao is the highlight of this year’s colorful and much-awaited Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan.

Locals and tourists filled the city’s main roads on Saturday (Aug. 17) to witness the performance of every contingent despite the scorching heat of the sun. The Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan, formerly known as Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan is one of the much-anticipated events of the Kadayawan Festival.

The Sta. Ana National High School Performing Arts Guild won the Champion’s Circle Category with PhP 1.2 million cash prize, trophy, and medals. They also received the Best in Music and Best in Artistic Design awards.

The Mabini National High School (Special Program in the Arts) placed first runner-up while the Sining Sayon Dawet Cultural Ensemble (Davao City National High school) placed second runner-up.

The Champions Circle Category has only three entries. They were the champions from the competition in 2016, 2017, and 2018.

Meanwhile, the Grand Champion for the Open Category was bagged by Sindac Anib Performing Ensemble from Bislig City in Surigao del Sur. They also won the Best in Music and Best in Artistic Design awards. The group received PhP 1 million, trophy, and medals.

The Elizalde National High School from Maco in Davao de Oro placed first runner-up; the Mati Comprehensive National High school from Mati City in Davao Oriental placed second runner-up; the Lupon National Comprehensive High School from Lupon in Davao Oriental placed third runner-up, and Kablacan Integrated School from Sarangani Province placed fourth runner-up.

The Open Category has seven entries including the Sining Pakalagyan Cultural Ensemble from Maguindanao Province and the Teatro Amorseco Dance Troupe of Notre Dame from Sto. Niňo, South Cotabato.

The Catalunan Pequeño National Highschool (Kawangis Performing Arts Guild) was hailed the Grand Champion for the Davao School-Based category. They also bagged the Best in Music award. They received Php 1 million pesos, trophy, and medals.

The Magallanes Elementary School placed second and won the Best in Artistic Design award. Meanwhile, the Buhangin District Performing Arts Guild placed third, the Don Juan Dela Cruz Central Elementary School placed fourth, and the Lapu-Lapu Elementary School placed fifth.

Included in the eight entries are contingents from Artemio Loyola Elementary School, Talomo Central Elementary School, and Sirawan Beach Elementary School.
