DAVAO CITY—Senator Miguel Zubiri is expected to lead the cornerstone laying of the University of the Philippines Mindanao School of Management building at the school’s Mintal campus this December 5.
With a budget allocation of 50 million pesos, the structure is part of UP Mindanao ‘s Medium Term Development Plan (2009-2012) which focuses on infrastructure development. Zubiri is the author of the Senate Bill 3304 which has proposed a development fund for UP Mindanao to support the plan.
Among the projects in the plan are a student’s dormitory annex worth 50 million pesos, concreting and landscaping of the University Avenue of 50 million, construction of a Mindanao loop and oblation plaza of another 150 million and construction of a main Library worth 100 million pesos.
By 2010, the university has proposed 150 million pesos for the construction of a biotech facility for indigenous food resources and another 150 million pesos for the construction of a College of Humanities and Social Sciences building.
Plans are also underway for a 55 million pesos Center for the Advancement of Research in Mindanao, a Center for Continuing Education worth 50 million and the construction of the first phase of UP Mindanao Eco-Habitat worth 250 million pesos.
A second phase of the Eco-habitat worth another 250 million pesos is also included in Zubiri’s bill. (PIA XI)
