DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The Davao City government has advised all government and private search and rescue teams to be on alert and on full operations for possible landslide and flooding brought by tropical depression Ambo.
At 2:00 PM today, May 10, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA) confirmed that the low-pressure area spotted 638 kilometers east of Davao City developed into a tropical depression.
Ambo, based on PAG-ASA’s weather advisory, will bring scattered light to moderate with occasional heavy rains over the regions of Caraga, Davao, and Soccsksargen.
The state weather bureau warned residents especially on landslide and prone areas to coordinate with their Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management offices for precautionary measures.
Local authorities here advised the public to take the necessary measures and urged them to avoid traveling to Davao City and anywhere in the region until further notice.
Residents in landslide and flood-prone areas were urged to be on alert for possible evacuation. They were also advised to stay indoors and secure their houses to avoid lightning.
Work in government offices has been suspended from 3:00 PM today until 11:59 PM tomorrow, May 11, except for offices related to disaster, social service, and emergency. Meanwhile, private establishments and offices not essential to basic human needs were asked to suspend their operations. (davaotoday.com)
