DAVAO CITY— The state weather bureau PAG-ASA on Wednesday said that Tropical Depression Queenie is expected to make landfall over Surigao del Sur this afternoon and it will traverse the Northern Mindanao area by Wednesday evening.
PAG-ASA said in its 10 a.m weather bulletin, Tropical Depression Queenie was estimated to be 210 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur placing 19 areas in the islands of Visayas and Mindanao under Storm Signal No. 1.
Tropical Depression Queenie will bring moderate to heavy rainfall estimated within the 300-kilometer diameter of the tropical depression with winds of 30-60 kph expected in at least 36 hours, specifically in: Southern Leyte, Bohol, Southern Cebu, Negros Oriental, Southern Negros Occidental, Siquijor, Surigao del Norte including Siargao Island, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Compostella Valley, Dinagat Province, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Bukidnon and Zamboanga del Norte.
Packing with a maximum winds of 45 kph, Tropical Depression Queenie is forecasted to move West at 24 kph and is expected to be at 35 km North of Dipolog City, and at 105 km West of Puerto Princesa by Friday morning.
It is expected to be outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Friday evening and at 710 km West of Puerto Princesa or over the West Philippine Sea by Saturday morning, according to PAG-ASA.
PAG-ASA said TD Queenie will bring a rainfall amount of 7-15 mm per hour (moderate-heavy) within the 300 km diameter of the Tropical Depression.
The weather bureau warned the “residents in low lying and mountainous areas of the provinces under Storm Signal No. 1 as well as the rest of Mindanao to be alert against possible flashfloods and landslides.”
Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the eastern seaboard of Visayas and Mindanao, warned PAG-ASA. (davaotoday.com)
