MANILA — The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) requires household service workers for deployment to obtain a Household Services National Certificate issued officially by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). This POEA mandate is part of a series of reforms to upgrade work standards and to safeguard the welfare of OFWs. To date, TESDA has certified 11,526 household workers.
TESDA, in its aim to help Filipinos gain employment opportunities, is now offering its assessment, training, and certification services for household workers absolutely free via the Free Assessment Service of TESDA (FAST) program. FAST was fittingly launched in Malacaang last April.
At present, there are 13 TESDA Technology Institutions (TTIs) nationwide implementing FAST for household service workers. These TTIs are Marcos Agro-Industrial School, Isabela School of Arts and Trades, Southern Isabela College of Arts and Trades, New Lucena Polytechnic College, Arteche National Agricultural School, Balangiga National Agricultural School, Samar National School of Arts and Trades, Dipolog School of Fisheries, Cagayan de Oro School of Arts and Trades, Lupon School of Fisheries, Surallah National Agricultural School, Northern Mindanao School of Fisheries, and TESDA Womens Center in Taguig.
The list of TTIs is expected to grow to accommodate more applicants. With better skills, OFWs can demand higher salaries as well.
According to Executive Director Augusto Capio of TESDAs Competency Assessment and Certification Office (CACO), Our household workers are one of, if not the best, in the world. We take pride in this and I hope more would also grab the FAST privilege.
Call the TESDA-CACO at telephone numbers 8174076 to 82 locals 613 and 614 for more details.
