According to Pulse Asia survey conducted from March 21 to 28, 2010, re-electionist Senators Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr. and Jinggoy Estrada both ranked 1st to 2nd. Former Senator and former Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) Chairperson Vicente “Tito” Sotto III landed in 7th to 8th places, while another former Senator and former National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Chairperson Ralph Recto captured 7th to 9th places. Even re-electionist Senator Manuel “Lito” Lapid has the probable chance of winning, with the rank of 11th to 13th. The survey result from the Social Weather Stations (SWS), which was conducted from February 24-28, 2010, is no different. Senator Bong Revilla, Jr. still ranked as the number 1 Senatorial candidate, while Senator Jinggoy Estrada landed in the number 3 spot. Ralph Recto came in at number 6, Tito Sotto at number 8 and Senator Lito Lapid at numbers 10-11.
It is terrible, horrible, shocking that these people landed in the top 12 Senators for 2010. Clearly, the Filipino respondents of these surveys still consider popularity as one of the important factors in choosing a candidate. It is heartbreaking to learn that for some voters, it is simply a matter of name recall, rather than the candidates’ backgrounds and platforms. Continue reading
