Davao City – Fire razed thirty houses on Tuesday noon in Purok Jasa along kilometer 13 in Barangay Panacan, leaving 40 families homeless.
The next morning, the site was swamped with fire victims and scavengers alike who came from barangays as far as Agdao. Children, adults and elderly scoured and scraped the place for metals, galvanized roofs and other things they can sell to junk shops or to salvage to rebuild their houses.
One resident picked up a dead dog, and his neighbors yelled, “we could have cooked that if we found it yesterday!”
The 40 families are now homeless as they stayed temporarily at the covered court of the Osmeña Elementary School.
