DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The local government is turning to social media to reach residents who want to communicate their concerns, including complaints against local officials.

The Davao City Reports page was launched on Wednesday and has reached over 200 private messages, said City Information Officer Jefry Tupas.

He said the reports they received did not only cover concerns about local government services and programs “but also about private companies and other local government units.”

“We respond to all types of information. People are seeking help and reaching out to the local government, so we will respond to them accordingly,” Tupas said.

He said the idea is to get reports from people who have access to the internet and process these reports to get quick feedback from the concerned agencies.

Tupas said they believe using the social media platform will aid the local government to immediately respond to concerns of the public.

As of 4:45 pm Thursday, 5,768 people have liked the page and 5,863 are following it.

The project was announced by City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on her Facebook and Instagram accounts on Wednesday.

“It has come to our attention that people tag my personal social media accounts for their complaints and issues in Davao City,” she said.

“Unfortunately, I do not open my notifications and did not download (an) FB messenger, these tags remain unattended. To correct this, the City Government opened an official complaints page,” the mayor said.

The page is maintained by the City Information Office and the reports will be forwarded to the concerned agencies for proper actions.(davaotoday.com)
