DAVAO CITY – The Comission on Elections will conduct a special registration inside the main camp and seat of power of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, which Malacanang hopes to strike a comprehensive political settlement.
Mohagher Iqbal, MILF peace panel chairman, said the Comelec will conduct the special registration in Camp Darapanan in Sultan Kudarat town, Maguindanao on March 7, where he estimates 2,000 of their members will register.
“We urge our supporters, our commanders and combatants to register,” said Iqbal.
Iqbal said their campaign for their members to be registered say that they “still hope that the BBL (Bangsamoro Basic Law) will be passed.”
Iqbal was joined by members of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) when they spoke before members of the National Journalist of the Philippines Thursday to answer questions about “The Mamamasapano Incident.”
In late January, 44 members of the Philippine National Police – Special Action Force, 18 MILF fighters and 7 civilians were killed in a botched operation to get a United States high-value target Zulkifli Bin Hir alias Marwan in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
