TAGUM CITY—A former police officer was killed in a police dawn raid at Purok 4, Barangay Maniki, Kapalong, Davao del Norte on Wednesday, March 2.

The fatality was identified as former police officer Bucari Cabugatan Umpar. Umpar sustained gunshots in several parts of his body after he shot it out with raiding law enforcers at his residence, Police Chief Inspector Michael Seguido said in an interview with Davao Today.

Seguido said that Umpar was rushed to the Kapalong District Hospital for medical treatment. But Dr. Ross Melchor Sator, the attending physician, declared him dead on arrival at 4:30 am Wednesday.

“The raid was jointly conducted by the combined elements of Davao Norte Public Safety Company and Kapalong Municipal Station,” Seguido said.

A warrant of arrest was issued by Judge Arlene Lirag-Palabrica of Regional Trial Court Branch 31 last February 23, for violation of Republic Act 10591 and Republic Act 9516 for illegal possession of firearms, he added.

Authorities seized one loaded caliber 9 mm Pietro Berreta, two fired cartridge from a cal .9 mm and one MK2 fragmentation grenade at his house. Inside his black Toyota Fortuner were found one caliber 44 Magnum revolver with a marking “KING COBRA USA”, one loaded and one empty magazine of caliber 9 mm pistol, one frearm cleaning kit, an extended magazine of caliber 9 mm measuring 9.5 inches, one magazine pouch with three holes, and one spent shell of caliber 44 Magnum.

“Inventory of seized pieces of evidence was conducted at the area witnessed by suspect’s live-in partner and other representatives. The recovered pieces of evidence from suspect’s vehicle were brought to our office for proper disposition,” Seguido said. (davaotoday.com)
