DAVAO CITY — Campaign materials of election candidates stuck on prohibited areas will be torn down this week as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) XI has sought help with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for manpower.
Marlon Casquejo, Comelec XI assistant regional director, said that they already tied up with the DPWH which is a member of task force in removing campaign posters that break the Fair Elections Act.
Fair Elections Act (Republic Act 9006) states that candidates are only allowed to erect common poster areas in public places, such as plazas, markets, barangay centers and the like.
“Bawal jud magbutang sa poste sa kuryente because that is hazardous,” (posting in electric posts is prohibited because it is hazardous) he said.
He said that they will start their clearing base in the national roads of Davao City including Boulevard within this week.
For party-list groups and candidates, the allowable size of the common poster areas are limited to 12 feet x 16 feet. Independent candidates are only allowed the size of 4 feet x 6 feet, according to RA 9006.
Meanwhile, Casquejo reminded the public that Comelec does not have the authority to remove campaign materials inside a private property. But if such material is seen as oversized, the homeowner would face a violation. (davaotoday.com)
