The Communist New People’s Army has released the voice clips of Lingig town mayor Roberto Luna Jr. and four of his bodyguards, assuring their families that they are alive and safe.
The voice who identified himself as Mayor Luna assured his family that he has been in “good hands” and that the New People’s Army has been taking care of him.
Roel Agustin II, spokesperson of the NPA’s Conrado Heredia Command, said in a statement the mayor is facing charges before the “people’s court.” He said the NPAs captured Luna and his bodyguards on May 5 at the national highway of Barangay Pasian in Monkayo, Compostela Valley because of the “people’s clamor” to dismantle the private army that Luna has built since 2001.
