DAVAO CITY – First district Representative Karlo Nograles will be supporting Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte should the latter declares to run as president.
“Kung modagan si Mayor rRody pagka president si Mayor Rody ang atong suportahan (If Mayor Rody runs for president, we will support (him)),” Nograles said adding if the mayor will not run, he will think about who to support.
Nograles who is running under the National Unity Party (NUP) has filed his certificate of candidacy for re-election before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Davao on Monday.
Nograles told reporters that the NUP has no official presidential candidate yet.
“But right now ang desisyon sa partido is dili sa magkarga og presidential candidate until tingali mga February. Pabayaan usa namo na modagan ang kampanya gikan sa pagfile sa certificate of candidacies (But right now, the decision of the party is not to adopt a presidential candidate until around February. We will let the campaign take its course from he filing of the certificate of candidacies),” said Nograles.
“By February, as the official campaign period starts, which is 90 days before elections, that is when NUP will come out of a decision,” he said.
But Nograles clarified that whatever is the decision of the NUP, he will be supporting Duterte should he run as president.
“Pero ako deklarado na ko daan nga regardless, kung unsa may desisyon sa NUP , kung modagan si Mayor Duterte , Duterte gyud ko (But I have already declared that regardless of the NUP decision, if Mayor Duterte runs, I will support him),” he said.
“We all hope that he runs, especially us here in Mindanao and Davao,” he said.
Duterte will be meeting the press in a conference this afternoon. Last Friday, Duterte told reporters that he will retire if his daughter Inday Sara will agree to run as mayor. He said in a scale of 10, there is only 2 to indicate that he will run as president. (davaotoday.com)
