Temperatures run feverish high on Wednesday August 6 in Nabunturan town, Compostela Valley following a Department of Energy order to close the office of the beleaguered Davao del Norte Electric Cooperative- Cooperative Development Authority (Daneco-CDA) office.
Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla earlier issued a “cease and desist order” on December 13 last year against Daneco-CDA..
Supporters of the Daneco-CDA faction blocked the national highway to prevent the closure order from being implemented. Riot police later moved in, and Compostela Valley Provincial Director, Senior Superintentent Abraham Rojas accompanied Sherriff Atty. Xerxes Adzuara to implement the closure order.
Commotion happened when DANECO-CDA supporters blocked the path of the police and questioned the legality of the order. The owner of the building also joined the Daneco-CDA supporters and allegedly snatched the chain from authorities to prevent them from locking up the office.
Police took back the chain. A certain Mrs. Marfe said she would press charges, claiming that she was hurt by the police during the confrontation.
Police successfully padlocked the office at 9:46 a.m.
