TAGUM CITY — Vice presidential candidate Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano on Thursday blasted as cheap stunts the broadsides against his running mate, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
“The mayor’s rivals are obviously afraid, and so they are resorting to these cheap stunts to try and bring his image down,” Cayetano said.
On Wednesday, Cayetano warned of the possible airing of tens of millions worth in what he described as “anti-Duterte advertisements.”
He said that these ads will be shown in television station ABS-CBN on Friday, May 6 three days before the upcoming national elections.
But the appeared on TV as early as Thursday, May 5.
Cayetano claimed that Duterte’s presidential rivals have joined forces to attack Duterte, who maintains a wide lead in several surveys.
“Our rivals claim that they are not corrupt. They present themselves to the people as crusaders against corruption. They maliciously accuse Mayor Duterte of amassing ill-gotten wealth. And yet, they are the ones who are willing to spend millions worth of money just to ruin his image,” Cayetano stressed.
“I believe that our people know who the real enemies are. Those who are afraid of the radical change that Mayor Duterte can bring, those who resort to desperate ploys such as this, they are the ones whom we should watch out for,” he added. (davaotoday.com)
