DAVAO CITY – The Davao Light and Power Company today said it will now discontinue the scheduling of rotating power interruptions as the power supply situation improved within its franchise starting Wednesday in time for the Kadayawan Festival.
The DLPC said in a statement that the National Power Corporation through the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) “significantly increased the power supply allocation of Davao Light from a maximum of 196 MW [megawatts] as of August 11 up to 234 MW yesterday.”
“The NGCP has advised Davao Light that the improvement in the power situation in Mindanao was due to the restoration of the one-unit of STEAG coal-fired power plant last August 11 days ahead its deadline, which is on August 16. It was in July 18 when the said unit started to undergo a Preventive Maintenance Servicing,” DLPC said.
“This would mean availability of power supply to meet the franchise’s demand,” said Ross Luga, Davao Light’s Corporate Communication Officer.
However, it said the “contingency measures will still be readily in place as the Mindanao power supply has zero reserve.”
“If in case one of the generating plants in Mindanao will undergo emergency or maintenance shutdown, the Davao Light franchise will have to face again a very tight power supply situation which may resort to implementing another set of rotating power interruptions,” said DLPC. (davaotoday.com)
