DAVAO CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Davao Region is strengthening the skills of various business counselors and advisers assigned in Negosyo Centers to provide more relevant assistance to entrepreneurs in the region.
DTI recently conducted a five-day training on Comprehensive Small Business Counselors Course with experts from the University of the Philippines Institute of Small Scale Industries (UPISSI) as the resource persons.
The week-long extensive training was attended by 31 participants who are involved in running the Negosyo Centers. The participants include DTI staff who are handling or directly involved in assisting the micro, small and medium enterprises; staff manning the Negosyo Centers; and Investment and Promotion Officers of local government units (LGUs).
In a Philippine Information Agency dispatch, DTI-Davao Regional Director Maria Belenda Q. Ambi shared that the main objective of the course was really to enhance the competence and effectiveness of the Negosyo Centers staff, whether DTI Enterprise Counselors or those who are from the LGUs or academe, in providing managerial and technical assistance to their MSME clients.
She said the training is needed to develop the counselors into “becoming well-rounded, confident and polished business counselors.”
“This is one of the many strategies that DTI has been doing in order to fully equip our MSME counselors as they get engaged with MSMEs who are in different stages of their business,” Ambi said, adding that provision of proper and tailor-fit consultancy services is very critical for the growth of local entrepreneurs.
