City orders stoppage of condo construction after road collapse

Feb. 03, 2015

The City Building Officer has ordered the stoppage of the construction of a condominium building after their investigation report has pointed that it was the cause of the collapse of a road in a mall here Tuesday.

Atty. Joseph Dominic Felizarta, officer-in-charge of the City Building Office said that based on their reports, diaphragm wall of the Aeon Towers condominium has weakened by “.70 meters.”

“It weakened and collapsed. It might be that they have insufficient bracing as the I-beam bracing bent and could not withstand the pressure from (the nearby) Abreeza (mall),” said Felizarta.

The collapse of the mall road 8am Friday has caused a stir in social media and raised questions on the mall’s safety itself, especially as that same road was also damaged last September.
