DAVAO CITY – Bayan Muna Partylist Representative Neri Colmenares denounced the Commission on Elections en banc decision to disqualify Presidential aspirant, Senator Grace Poe.
In a statement on Wednesday, Colmenares said the Comelec “did not only disenfranchise her but also the millions of supporters who want her to be President.”
Colmenares called the decision “anti-democratic” and “an assault to the people’s sovereign right to choose the nation’s leaders.”
The Comelec en banc has decided to dismiss the appeal of Poe to run for President in the 2016 elections.
The Comelec second division also granted the petition of petitioner Estrella Elamparo to cancel Poe’s COC as she has committed “material misrepresentation”.
The Comelec’s first division earlier voted to cancel Poe’s certificate of candidacy after Poe committed “material misrepresentation” in her COC for claiming she is a natural-born Filipino citizen and has fulfilled the 10-year residency requirement.
But Colmenares believes the Comelec has become “a tool in the sinister machination of the administration to disqualify leading presidential candidates.”
“We are sure Sen.Poe will be a presidential candidate in 2016 because the Supreme Court will promptly reject and correct this patently unfair and unjust ruling,” he said. (davaotoday.com)
