DAVAO CITY — The Gabriela Women’s Party agreed to the Permanent Court of Arbitration ruling on Thursday that the case filed by the Philippine government against China was admissible.
“Gabriela supports the efforts by The Philippines versus China UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea) Annex VII Tribunal to hold hearings. The Filipino people and other nations should hold China to task and convince it to participate in the PCA proceedings,” GWP Representative Emmi De Jesus said.
However, the militant partylist says the Aquino administration has to put into place and in motion a foreign policy independent from the saber-rattling provocations of other aggressor military powers, namely, the United
States and Japan.
De Jesus said that peaceful resolution of the UN tribunal “should be fully and competently pursued, and hawkish military posturing by theUS in the disputed seas fronting the West Philippines should be condemned and rejected”.
Gabriela said it will keep tab on the tribunal and will maintain its demands for the US, which is not signatory to the UNCLOS, to refrain from issuing more provocative pronouncements. (davaotoday.com)
