DAVAO CITY – A workplace safety group appealed to Davao City Rep. Karlo Alexei Nograles, who chairs the Committee on Labor and Employment of the House of Representatives, to immediately release the results of the inquiry last May 20 on the Kentex fire tragedy.
“We appeal to Rep. Nograles to immediately release the results of Labor Committee’s fruitful investigation. We are positive that the information presented in the meeting would further clarify the liabilities of government officials for the death of so many workers,” said Nadia De Leon, Institute for Occupational Health and Safety Development (IOHSAD) advocacy officer.
The group said the committee’s prompt action of probing deeper into the fire incident is “a positive step” for the families of the victims and survivors of the industrial fire.
De Leon said the probe’s result “would be most valuable in the light of the filing of administrative cases before the Office of the Ombudsman by the families of the victims and the survivors of the Kentex fire against top officials of the Department of Labor and Employment and Department of Interior and Local Government.”
“The Kentex fire tragedy requires resolute action from our legislators. We challenge Rep. Nograles, as head of the House Committee on Labor, as well as all legislators to take swift and concrete steps to ensure that this workplace disaster will never happen again,” added De Leon.
