DAVAO CITY – The Migrante – Middle East hit the Aquino administration for the “undocumented” death of a Filipino worker in United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to “lack of government welfare programs” and “poor services.”
Nhel Morona, national coordinator of Migrante in UAE confirmed the death of Alex Galano Lapore, 37, who died Tuesday morning due to “heart stroke”.
Morona said, “the officers and members of Migrante UAE are in deep sorrow as we received a confirmed report that our active member [Lapore] died.”
Migrante-Middle East regional coordinator John Leonard Monterona said that the death of Lapore “underscores the need for the Philippine government to provide efficient onsite assistance and needed welfare services for the distressed, stranded, and undocumented OFWs.”
He added that the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (Polo) in Dubai “[did] not allow the OFWs to go inside its offices and instead let the OFWs stay in a (makeshift tent) under high temperature.”
Monterona said Lapore’s death is currently under investigation. He said “preliminary reports indicated that Lapore suffered a heart stroke causing him to collapse face down, hitting his head on the concrete slab, steps away from the entrance of Polo building.” (davaotoday.com)
