Urban poor group, Kadamay, called on the fans of actress Nora Aunor to join the calls on the President’s ouster.
On Tuesday, Nora Aunor herself joined migrant workers in a protest action commemorating the 20th death anniversary of Flor Contemplacion, the overseas Filipino worker who was hanged in Singapore in 1995 for allegedly killing a fellow OFW.
Aunor called on the resignation of President Benigno Aquino, III for his “inefficiency in solving OFW woes. The actress also condemned Labor Export Policy espoused by the Aquino administration saying this has caused the exodus of thousands of OFWs to foreign countries.
Carlito Badion, national secretary-general of Kadamay, said Aunor’s statements are apt and timely. Badion said around 12 million to 13 million Fillipinos are unemployed because of lack of national industries that would provide jobs for the workers.
Meanwhile, Migrante said not less than 6 OFW are executed in other countries like Flor Contemplacion in more than four years of the Aquino administration. This figure, Migrante said, is the biggest number of cases a Philippine president could have. Migrante said 123 of 13 to 15 million OFWs are now on death row while 7,000 are imprisoned in other countries.
