DAVAO CITY – New People’s Army guerrillas captured two soldiers and killed a Cafgu Active Auxilliary (CAA) in Barangay Casoon, Compostela Valley Province on Wednesday afternoon.
First Lieutenant Alexandre Cabales, acting chief of the public affairs unit of the 10th Infantry Division here, said that around 2:00 pm the CAA was flagged down by the NPAs and then killed.
He said the NPAs then took with them the soldiers who were onboard a motorcycle “when they passed by the crime scene.”
“The soldiers are members of 25th Infantry Battalion, while the Cafgu is detailed at Casoon Patrol Base,” he said. Cabales did not name the soldiers.
Lieutenant Colonel Mitchel Anayron, commander of the 25th Infantry Battalion, said that civilian eyewitnesses recognized the leader of the NPAs as alias “Jinggoy”.
“Jinggoy, whose real name is Zaldy Cañete, a notorious NPA commander, is out on bail,” said Anayron.
Cabales said the Army is now conducting pursuit operations to rescue the captured soldiers.(davaotoday.com)
