DAVAO CITY — A unit of the Therma South Energy coal-fired power plant here will start supplying 150 megawatts of power to its consumers in several provinces and cities across Mindanao on Friday (September 18).
In a Philippine Information Agency dispatch, Therma South Inc. president and chief operations officer Benjamin Cariaso Jr. said that the consumers and stakeholders have been informed of the official start of the commercial operations.
The second unit is expected to be operational early next year with the same capacity.
“We are here not only to help Mindanao solve the current power crisis. The Aboitiz group is committed to helping Mindanao sustain its economic growth and fulfill its potential,” Cariaso said.
The coal-fired power plant which is located in boundary of Davao City and Sta. Cruz Davao del Sur will utilize circulating fluidized bed (CFB) technology.
Meanwhile, a 1,000-hectare carbon sink is also being developed in Marilog district, which is aimed to collect carbon emissions from the plant. (davaotoday.com)
