DAVAO CITY – The Davao Light and Power Corporation said the power supply situation in its franchise “remains to be very unstable”.
On December 3, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines declared a Mindanao-grid deficiency of 80 megawatts (MW) due to the reduced capacity of Agus and Pulangi hydropower plants.
Davao Light said the 150-MW coal-fired power plant of Therma South Inc. “still remains to be offline until December.4 [even if it] has undergone emergency shutdown”.
Davao Light in a statement said this situation has resulted to the implementation of two hours to 2.5 hours of rotating power interruptions within its franchise.
“With the current power supply being served by its generation companies as of December 4, Davao Light said it will not be able to cope the demand for power within its franchise area. It estimates a deficiency of about 50 MW on the average,” it said.
It also clarified that the rotating power interruption schedule, only serves as “a guide for customers as the electric utility is still dependent on the power supply available in a particular hour.”
“There were days when there were no power interruptions especially when power supply allocation is higher. There were also times when service disruptions have to be implemented because the supply situation has worsen,” said Davao Light.
Meanwhile, Davao Light said they understand the customers who are airing out their complaints in social media and through phone calls due to the inconvenience of the power interruptions.
It added that power supply may stabilize and rotating power interruptions may no longer be implemented “until the said major power plants will be back online.” (davaotoday.com)
