President Benigno Aquino III signed into law on Wednesday the bill postponing the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections from Feb. 21, 2015 to the last Monday of October in 2016.
Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. informed Senate President Franklin Drilon and House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. in his dated March 25, letter that the President already signed Republic Act No. 10656 or “An Act postponing the SK elections to the last Monday of October 2016.”
The House of Representatives passed on Dec. 1 last year SK postponement bill House Bill No. 5209, which the Senate amended on February. 2 this year that the elections be held simultaneously with the barangay (village) elections in 2016.
The SK election was originally scheduled October 2013 but was postponed to February 21 this year. The Presidential and local elections will also be held in 2016.
